What with all the hype and talk about this restaurant, although most of the talk is about the prices, my dinning experience at the Blue Bicycle took on a bit of a roller coaster effect, and unfortunately, left me feeling a bit disappointed. Given that the restaurant’s cellar used to be a brothel, the interior décor of the restaurant was far from my expected seductive grandeur design and instead looked a bit tired. Although I personally found the mix-match of furniture, seat cushions, and random wall-hangings quite fun and relaxing, it also remind me of grandma's living room.

The meal had started off fabulously when the waitress delighted me and my friend with home-made baked bread presented in what looked like little flower pots, and a whole head of roasted garlic still in its skins and coat as a spread. I couldn’t find much fault with my starter which was a rich and creamy Home-made Monkfish and Caviar Ravioli, with Watercress and a Scallop Roe reduction. My main, which was off the specials board, was Pan-fried Pork with a sweet-chilli glaze, on a bed of mushroom noodles and braised Pak-choi. Out of the numerous flavours which I should have been able to taste I was left with just one, a thick sugary syrup in which everything wallowed; not quite the glaze I had been expecting. The Pak-choi was also over cooked and mushy.

The dessert, Rich Dark Chocolate & Griottine Cherry Fondant, although nothing spectacular was tasty, and chocolate and cherry is always a good combination. Sadly, the pudding and delicious starter could not make up for the poor main. I will say the presentation of food was beautiful and artistic, however, this just left me feeling more disappointed when it came to eating it and the often said phrase ‘style over substance’ would not be inappropriate here. Or, it may simply have been a case of hit or miss with the dishes, but I don’t like to play games with my food, especially at these high- end prices.
