Betty's is as much of a part of the city as is York Minster. Situated on St. Helen's square, the café has a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu as well as its own bakery (with an extensive range of bread, cakes and chocolates) and gift shop. Children are welcomed and have their own 'Little Rascals' menu; there is organic baby food, high chairs and toys for babys and toddlers. A pianist plays every evening between 6pm and 9pm.

Quaint York institution

Betty’s! What seems like the centre - if not the pinnacle - of York city life. My friend pointed out to me the other day that you know you have been in York for too long when people ask you for directions and you begin with “Right, you know where Betty’s is….”.
A visit to Betty’s is an absolute must during your time at York, and the ideal place to take you parents when they come to visit you. Unfortunately there is normally a queue just to get a table, and that itself speaks volumes for the place. It really is the quintessential English tea room with the waitresses wearing white piny coats and doyleys as far as the eye can see. Your grandma would probably die and go to heaven. There is a food menu which offers sandwiches, baked potatoes etc. I usually stick to the tea, scones and cakes though all of which are freshly made and delicious.
