The Yorker’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 21st February 2019 from 7pm in room AEW/104 (Alcuin Lecture room.) If you have ever fancied writing, editing or simply want to try something new, now is the opportunity! On the night all current Editorial and Managerial positions will become open for election.
The Yorker is the university’s only independent media outlet established and run completely by students. The Yorker formed in 2006 after an incident occurring in a York nightclub where a bouncer attacked a student. Existing York student media at the time were prevented from publishing information about the event, which is where the idea for The Yorker was conceived.
The Yorker may not be the biggest media on campus but we believe our place is incredibly important. With no political or campus affiliations, our coverage comes with a unique character. The Yorker is also a private limited company and is therefore self-sufficient; all profits are donated to charity at the close of each academic year. We take rolling submissions online without any set deadlines, being involved with us fits in perfectly with any academic schedule.
The Yorker is a great organisation to be involved with, as it stresses the importance of independence and individual voice. If this sounds up your street we would love to see you on Thursday 21st February. Simply prepare a short manifesto explaining your suitability for the role and what you think you could bring to the company. If you cannot attend in person, manifestos can be sent to the editor (firstname.lastname@example.org). If applying for director/managerial positions please notify the Managing Director with at least one weeks notice prior to the event. We cannot wait to meet you!
We will be in Courtyard post election for celebratory drinks, we hope you can join us!
