The Yorker can confirm that Tokyo Industries have purchased Tru nightclub, ending months of speculation about the club’s future
The Sports Centre tent will remain open until at least 2016 after City of York Council gave the sports hall an additional six years planning permission at a meeting today.
The parents of student James Alexander Ednie Matthews, who passed away last Wednesday, have said they feel comforted by the tributes his friends have left on his Facebook page.
Club Salvation will be reopening on 12th August following a fire at the club two weeks ago.
The Yorker understands that the event had been opposed by members of the JCRC and YUSU. It culminated with Jane Grenville talking to new college chair, Tim Green. Whilst she gave them permission to go ahead, the JCRC decided to ditch the plans.
Fears had centred on people dressing up as Claudia Lawrence, and with the event due to take place beside the Roger Kirk centre where she had worked, any such costume would have been in particularly poor taste. Whilst James’ ents reps had been putting together plans to deal with anybody who went too far in dressing up, there was a fear the event could nonetheless hurt the reputation of James College.
Ents officer Mike Moloney told the Yorker: “We decided to change the event because we were worried that people would get offended and that is not the image we want people to associate with James College”. The theme instead will be ‘good taste’ which will include a silent disco in James Hall
Green announced the change of theme to ‘Good taste’, saying “We thought about it and decided, why bring out the worst in people when we could bring out the best!”
Services Vice Chair, Tom Hobohm was enthusiastic about the change telling the Yorker, “The new 'good taste' theme is all in good humour, and will have speciality cocktails and drink deals as well as a silent disco for just £2, which is amazing value for money! It's going to be amazing.”

From what I've heard, basically it's too risky to stage the original event due to students. We all know someone will try to go as Claudia Lawrence - people will get offended, it could go national. It was a fantastic idea, but unfortunately, completely impractical...
Daniel Goddard - The vision article had no effect on the changing of the event. Yusu and the university hierarchy knew about bad taste before vision did. They actually know what is happening and don't have to read vision to find out. Also, if vision is so good why are you reading the Yorker.
Why are all the posts anonymous, especially when no one is saying anything particularly contentious?
#7 Anonymous, how do you know Vision didn't know about Bad Taste before YUSU and Heslington Hall, there's no way you could know when we found out. If they did know before us and were bothered by it then I severely doubt it would have taken them 3 weeks to do something about it, meanwhile promotion and posters for Bad Taste had already started. If you have another theory I'd be happy to hear it.
P.S. Your last sentence is laughably idiotic and I will by no means be justifying it with a response.
Rumour has it that it's something to do with the fact that James College doesn't want to be sued and the University isn't providing them with support. COWARDS!
