The Yorker can confirm that Tokyo Industries have purchased Tru nightclub, ending months of speculation about the club’s future
The Sports Centre tent will remain open until at least 2016 after City of York Council gave the sports hall an additional six years planning permission at a meeting today.
The parents of student James Alexander Ednie Matthews, who passed away last Wednesday, have said they feel comforted by the tributes his friends have left on his Facebook page.
Club Salvation will be reopening on 12th August following a fire at the club two weeks ago.
Societies and Communications Officer Rory Shanks, who is spearheading the campaign, told The Yorker: "Really the key message we want to get across is that we're convinced that both students and staff alike have some brilliant ideas about how to improve the things around us and it's these exact ideas that we really want to hear, so we can take them forward and see if we can get anything done."
Shanks said that, "the ideas can literally be as simple or as complex as the individual likes." He added that once YUSU has the ideas, "we'll collate them all and look to take each one to whatever authority we think best in order to try and get them enacted upon".
YUSU will also be letting students know ideas put forward by other students, and how they’ve dealt with them later next year.
Ideas put forward so far have related to a wide range of matters, from the library, the Courtyard, the FTR buses and student accommodation to the paths, ducks and transport on campus. Students can see submissions put forward on the TV screens in the Courtyard, the Physics and Electronics building and in the unit between Costcutter and Your Shop.
Students can submit their ideas by filling in one of the drinks mats around campus and submitting it via the various ballot boxes scattered about campus, or by sending them through the YUSU website.

This is a fantastic idea in itself. There has never been a quick and easy way to get thoughts and feedback across to the union, I genuinely think this will be a great success.
