Golden ducks arrive in York

Tuesday saw the release of two new ruddy shelducks onto the campus lake to replace Trevor, the much-revered golden duck who died in the summer of 2007.

B Henry's to remain open next year

It has been announced that B Henry's will be opening next term. Though the precise hours are to be confirmed, it is expected that the Alcuin bar will be open every Monday to Thursday from about 5.30pm to about 8.30pm.

Student Action celebrates its 40th anniversary

This coming week sees Student Action celebrate its 40th birthday, with possibly the biggest Student Action Week yet.

Student Action is the volunteering section of YUSU, and provides students with the opportunity to take part in a range of projects.

Every year they host the College Cup, where the college with the greatest amount of student volunteering hours wins, and Student Action Week which aims to 'to raise the profile of volunteering on campus.'

Student Action Chair Adam Wiles said: "Next week sees the most ambitious Student Action Week ever attempted by the group, which is really fitting considering it is also celebrating our fortieth birthday! This year we are really trying to give everyone the opportunity to find out about Student Action's volunteering projects and also have loads of fun at the same time."

The timetable for the coming week includes:

  • Monday:

Campus Nursery Garden: In association with the YUSU Environment and Ethics officers aims to prepare the Campus Nursery for the winter.

Free Film: - 'Avoir Etre' at 7:30pm in V/045.

  • Tuesday:

Blind Sports day: An assault course, where participants are be blind folded.

  • Wednesday:

Music Education Group workshop.

Kid's Party: Where students can play pass the parcel and musical chairs before moving onto Ziggy's or Salvation.

  • Thursday:

Volunteering Fair: Providing students with the opportunity to find out about the different volunteering projects.

Christmas Boxes: Packing Christmas boxes to send to the British armed forces.

  • Friday

Working with old people training session.

Bingo

  • Saturday

Mega college challenge: At St Nicholas field includes tree-planting and hedge-building.
