The Yorker takes a look back at some of the major events which hit the headlines in the academic year that was 2007-2008.
Former University of York student Neil Entwistle was sentenced today in the US to life in prison without parole for killing his wife and daughter.
Adam Thorn and two friends were attacked while walking back from the Black Bull quiz at 12:30am.
He said: "We stepped onto the road politely to let the man walk past on the pavement and he just turned and started hitting me in the face. There seemed no reason for it whatsoever.
"He smashed me several times in the face before knocking Harry's glasses across the road and giving him a nose bleed.
"It's a scary world out there."
Thorn said that he and his friends were simply walking down the road chatting and had not provoked the attack at all.
"I just stood there completely bemused while he whacked me in the face."
The third friend, who is the author of Vision's notorious "Campus Playboy" column, got away without injury.
The man is described as being of medium build and having short, spiky brown hair.
The three students spent the next day in the police station testifying.
The police have a good idea who the attacker is and are hoping to take him to court.
Fletcher-Hall just wont go away will she. Can we no-confidence an ex-YUSU officer? Dan Taylor around?
I think Adam Thorn and Dan Taylor should have some kind of competition to decide which of them really is "Campus' most hated man".
Suggestions on a postcard...
Ooh The Yorker could put up a poll in the sidebar!
Slightly biased- Thorn will want to win and being a part of The Yorker...
I don't know why but I thought this article was about Dan Taylor...
Unfortunately Uni isn't like Big Brother... <geordie accent>"Who goes you decide? To vote for Dan, call 09061234561. To vote for Adam, call 09061234562. Calls cost 25 pence, which 15 pence going to help send gap year students to Africa to build water pumps.</geordie accent>
We could create two competing facebook groups. Imagine it -
"The Great Facebook Race: Dan Taylor Haters"
and
"The Great Facebook Race: Adam Thorn Haters"
It may be worth disabling the walls and discussion boards though.
Weirdly enough, both of those groups already exist in some form (seriously, search it). Although I heard that Thorn set his up himself, so it doesn't really count.
Well Adam's not the founder, so that may not be true![1]
Although Dan's group[2] is currently winning the "race" 76 vs. 19
I don't know about levels of hatred, but they're both attention whores.
I love how this article insinuates that the motive for the attack was based on his own claim of being "campus' most hated man".
Dan actually has a few fan clubs. The Derwent JCRC and general Derwent seem to like the fellow and even some in Alcuin. Then there are the rampant-right Tories who hold him as their folk-hero for the GFH incident and even those in Nouse, Payne supporters, Hazelgrove's lot seem to not like what he says but hold a tremendous amount of respect for him saying it and actually arguing very intelligently with it. I think we underestimate the fellow. For what it's worth, he is a good laugh to go on the lash with as long as you sterr off politics!

I heard the true story was Adam got absolutely battered, whilst the campus playboy did a bit of kung fu then flew off.
Hehe. The Derwent JCRC is a fan club of his? They've got a reputation for utter buffoonery and general unintelligence.
Also, it does make me laugh - how frickin' massive are the combined egos of Taylor and Thorn! They seem to want to be the most hated student as if it's a good thing. Better to be hated than not known hmmm? The only quality each of them have which enable them to be known is their hatefulness. Maybe that's what is going on.
And just for the record, Campus Playboy is journalistic toilet paper at the highest level of bog-standardness.
