The Yorker takes a look back at some of the major events which hit the headlines in the academic year that was 2007-2008.
Former University of York student Neil Entwistle was sentenced today in the US to life in prison without parole for killing his wife and daughter.
Ben Pointing said: "I was sitting upstairs and the whole room began to shake. I stood up and thought at first that someone was running up the stairs. Then I thought, shit. This is an earthquake."
The quake was felt in most big cities across England, including in Nottingham, Liverpool and Leeds. The US Geological Survey website has named the epicentre as 30 miles south of Kingston upon Hull.
At the time of writing the Yorker can confirm that the quake has been felt by hundreds of students across York, many of whom expressed alarm at being woken up.
Yorker Videocast Editor Jo Shelley said: "I was asleep and began dreaming that a big man was shaking the house. When I woke up I couldn't figure out how he was doing it."
Reports on Sky News are coming in that the earthquake was felt in Northampton and Warwickshire as well.

Friends of mine felt it noticably as far away as Huddersfield.

Woo, 4.7 on the Richter scale - epicentre is 30 miles south of Kingston Upon Hull (around about Lincoln).
It happened in leeds and scarborough too! was confirmed by friends within minutes of it happening here
I felt it in the middle of town. I can think of better things to be woken up by.

I couldn't quite believe what was going on, nor could the rest of our street! It set a car alarm off and everything.
my house was shaking, thought the boiler had blown up! listening to the hilarious sky news "eye witnesses" is almost as good.

Maybe i am too far out of town, or just a heavy sleeper. I didn't feel a thing :-(. At least The Yorker is here to let me know whats happening so i can feel included!
