The Yorker takes a look back at some of the major events which hit the headlines in the academic year that was 2007-2008.
Former University of York student Neil Entwistle was sentenced today in the US to life in prison without parole for killing his wife and daughter.
Onlookers have told The Yorker that she was burnt "quite badly" and that the girl was "pretty freaked out" - she was "screaming and crying".
More students emailed us to say that coffee machine was out of order through the day after the incident.
Services Officer Matt Burton has reassured students that machine was not at fault.
He said: "Advice was taken from the Emergency Services and the customer was attended to by a paramedic."
Unfortunately accidents do happen and we're sorry the customer injured themselves."
The standard of York student is clearly deteriorating if they can't work a coffee machine.
I heard it was the coffee machine that exploded on her. Maybe they're not allowed to say that though?
To clarify, the coffee machine was not at fault and did certainly not explode.
Surely it's a bit harsh to question her ability as a student because she made a mistake with a coffee machine? The poor girl was injured.
Boring boring boring. When are you going to report on some proper news.
Accidents happen. Deal with it.

I hear The Yorker are recruiting. If you think you can do better you're welcome to try.
Maybe they should sex it up a bit. Claim the coffee machine spewed water over a convention of glamour models, resulting in wet clothes which just HAD to be removed.
I hear that is actually what happened Mitch, but the The Yorker isn't allowed to report it, its just too hot for the internets.
Seriously #5, this might not be the most exciting article ever but at least The Yorker isn't making up exciting news all the time like some campus papers
I heard they used the faces and laps of passers-by to dry themselves off too...
