It’s almost the end of term- oh no... It seems everyone is suffering from being a little bit ill, what I like to call severe student poverty and the feeling that they must socialise 24:7 to make the most of the last bit of term.

On the upside, staying fashionable throughout the summer needn’t be a struggle.

Accessories are a fantastic way to delve in and out of new fashion trends. There are lots of hats, summery scarves, summery shoes, bags and jewellery to choose from.

Hats

Straw hats are a great way to go if you’ve found a spot of sunshine. Particularly on the beach in the scorching sun and heat, the bigger the hat the better, as one rounds off any outfit while providing shade for sensitive skin.

Sunglasses

Lots of people seem to be sporting Ray Bans at the moment and I must say, wearing them well. However, if you think they give you beetle-like eyes than they do any sense of ‘cool’, go for a classic shape with a simple frame.

Scarves

As well as silky scarves, Pashminas are an easy wear over the summer. Generally, lighter fabrics that can be draped casually to keep warm in a nippy winds work well. Bold colours and prints can brighten an outfit that otherwise is quite dark without needing a whole new wardrobe.

Cravats for both men and women help to smarten up that evening suit, even if it is a jacket paired with jeans.

Bags

Bags, of course, are coming in all shapes and sizes at the moment. From long-strapped to small clutches to casual (and often eco-friendly) over-the-shoulder shopping bags, they’re all waiting to be used!

Belts

Very good to add shape to any silhouette and don’t break the bank either. New Look have a very good range of inexpensive belts starting at £5 for a pack of two.

Metallic colours look especially impressive in the light as the sun shines off of them and brings attention to that accentuated waist.

As for jewellery and shoes, of course, what you wear depends on the rest of the outfit. This said, if you want to wear that new pair of shoes, go for it! Add a bit of colour to plimsolls, trainers, sandals and heels with other accessories likes the bag and belt.

If you shop around for a bargain, accessories never need break the bank. They’re absolutely wonderful as they are versatile and can be mixed and matched and many simple pieces don’t go out of fashion for a long time.

Enjoy being clever with your accessory choices over the summer and when returning prepare for an exciting new wardrobe!
