Vanbrugh darts ahead of of James

Dart Board
Sunday, 7th February 2010

The James vs. Vanbrugh college darts clash this week was a relatively uneventful game for stats, but noteworthy nevertheless after a controversial victory for Nick Hall of Vanbrugh College over Jordan Horsman of James.

Hall took a leap forward before releasing his dart on his winning double before fist pumping in front of confused onlookers. Horsman raised concerns just seconds after the controversial move, but Hall quoted the rules claiming that the move was legal. Onlookers were left confused, though no allegations of cheating were formally made and the match result stood without discussion between Captains Sam Burgham and Ross Porter.

Greg Bonner recorded a superb singles victory for James College as well as an impressive victory with doubles partner Charlotte Judge. Vanbrugh’s ladies also performed well with Francis Wood throwing a very efficient 26-dart leg to go top of the victories table for college ladies this term.

The loss brought disappointment for the James team after an impressive victory over Derwent in week 3, which included some very impressive giant killing most notably from Dave Pocock who struck down arguably Derwent’s best player with an inspirational 54 checkout; it had been suggested they would finish solidly this term. The team are not concerned, however, and are eager to build upon early progress in next week’s match against Halifax who shamefully failed to put together a team in their last clash with James College last term.

One James College player was quoted as saying: “We didn’t have a great term last term but we have a much stronger and cohesive team now. Right now, I feel we could potentially beat any college because every leg we play is so close. Darts at this level is all about doubles and we’re there or thereabouts every leg. Bring it on.”
