When my friend and I went to the Gourmet Burger Kitchen, it proved to be a unique dining experience. The sign outside said that they served 'the most gorgeous burgers in town'. We couldn't resist the challenge of finding out!
The Plough sits between the two men's pubs of South Fulford, and it sits dignified at that. The decor is light and homely, you feel like you're eating in Fulford's answer to Rivendell. Sadly, the elves are replaced by the traditional English slaphead. But they're not aggressive in the Plough and you can eat any time and never have to barge, or shout for food. The menu lacks imagination: bangers and mash, roasts, battered fish and is pretty much bang on for price (you pay more for the setting though). Service is poor, you order at the bar and the blonde bimbo who served us walked around us eighteen times looking for that cunning table number which she wasn't expecting to be beaming right into her face. She also didn't lay down the cutlery before the meal came. I had bangers and mash with a separate bowl-tray of steaming vegetables. The mash was plain, the sausages good and meaty (not too much water content) and the gravy delectably English. What's more there was unashamedly a lot of food, something the Plough can boast about. It's probably more of a Sunday pub than weekday night, where you might want somewhere with less people milling around the tables.
