York Come Dine With Me preview

York Come Dine
Friday, 3rd July 2009
What do you get when you combine an idealistic eco warrior, an utterly loony yet endearing star of the pantomine, a witty graduand whose culinary abilities rival Nigella Lawson's and a party-loving fresher who consumes alcohol as breakfast? Channel 4's Come Dine with Me is utterly engaging for its gastronomic element, but the show also functions as a bona fide social experiment. In the same way, we've decided to throw four completely different personalities together to see the verbal fireworks and awkward silences ensue .

We've already been criticised for not including campus celebrities in the competition, but does it really matter? After all, with four 'campus recluses' in the running, as one contestant calls it, one can only expect the unexpected. And who says you have to be a campus celeb to make entertaining viewing? In any case, you'll have to watch the upcoming episodes to see what the participants think of a certain newspaper editor, complete with witty musings about campus stardom.

So without giving too much away, let's just say that the participants' dinner parties feature numerous accusations of promiscuity (both intentional and accidental), hilarious kitchen mishaps and strange talk of being baked inside cows, in this joint YSTV/Yorker venture. Watch the trailer, watch this space for the upcoming episodes and enjoy!
