Hello there and welcome to The Weekly Playlist, October Edition! Since The Weekly Playlist wasn’t exactly “weekly” during October, I decided to write a series of three articles in which yours truly will guide you through the new music releases from last month. In this article, I will share with you my favourite songs and in the following two articles, I will talk about new music videos and new albums, respectively.
But, enough about that! Let’s talk about what’s on today’s Playlist. As always, it’s a bit of everything. Names that you might recognise are Selena Gomez, Magic! and Chris Brown, but of course, the list doesn’t stop there. We have a lot of catching up to do so allow me to begin The Weekly Playlist, October Edition, Part I. Oh boy! I almost ran out of breath saying that.
Selena Gomez, Marshmello – ‘Wolves’
As the first feature on the list, we have ‘Wolves’, the brand new collaboration between Selena Gomez and Marshmello. I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard this one before at least once or twice on the radio or on Spotify. It had big success ever since its release on the 25th October and it debuted on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Chart’s Top 10. That was not surprising since both the singer and the DJ are big names in the music industry, but I honestly think it deserves to be in the tops regardless of the hype. So, if you’re not familiar with it, you should take a listen, and if you are familiar with it, you should take another listen *wink*.
Con Bro Chill – ‘Cruise’
Now, the second song on the Playlist would not normally appear in Top Charts but I will definitely mention it here. No matter what Con Bro Chill release, their music is usually energetic and it makes you want to bust a move and the song ‘Cruise’ is no different. The band has been releasing songs regularly since the end of September and that makes me wonder if there is maybe a new album coming. I’m sure it would make a great party playlist.
Magic! – ‘Darts in the Dark’
Magic! have returned with a new single, ‘Darts in the Dark’, which is probably my favourite from this Playlist. I remember a few years ago when they released their most popular song ‘Rude’ and it was being played on the radio at least three times within an hour. Well, I’m not sure if ‘Darts in the Dark’ will have the same success as ‘Rude’ but I do know that this new song is slightly different from what they used to sound like. Not that I would mind, of course. And I can’t wait to hear what else they prepared for us on their third upcoming album which is due for release early next year.
Grandson – ‘Blood // Water’
Grandson revealed yet another new single ‘Blood // Water’ which is the fourth he released this year and the sixth he released since he started his career. It’s nice to see songs are piling up in his discography and, who knows, maybe he will add an album or an EP to it in the near future. Now, if you haven’t heard of Grandson before, then you should totally give him a try. I admit this song is not as rock-inclined as his previous releases, but still, I think it’s pretty amazing!
Prismo – ‘Too Close’
If the name of this song sounds familiar to you, then it’s probably because you know the original song ‘Too Close’ by Alex Clare, released 6 years ago, if you can believe it. I think Prismo did a great job reinventing the original. It’s a bit more upbeat and the bass is stronger, which I always prefer.
Jaira Burns – ‘High Rollin’
Jaira Burns is a new face in the music industry who released her debut single earlier this year. ‘High Rollin’ is the third song she added to her discography and I think it’s her best one so far. It’s quite poppy and it has a chill, feel-good kind of vibe which makes it perfect to listen to anytime. I think Jaira has potential so I definitely recommend you to give her a listen. Also, I really love the colour of her hair.
Daya – ‘New’
Daya is another up-and-coming artist who released a ‘New’ single last month. Ha, did you see what I did there? Very funny, what can I say? Daya featured on The Chainsmokers’ 2016 hit ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ which I assume most of us know by now and it was probably her most popular music project so far. ‘New’ is her first release since her 2016 debut album Sit Still, Look Pretty. The song is catchy and it’s a mix of pop and EDM which really reminds me of The Chainsmokers’ songs in general.
Klangkarussell ft. Mando Diao – ‘Jericho’
Klangkarussell, or Sound Carousel translated from German, are an Austrian electronic music duo formed in 2011. In October, they released a new single in collaboration with Mando Diao. Although ‘Jericho’ fits into the electronic music category, it differs from other songs from this genre through the beautiful voice of Diao. Give it a listen!
Chris Brown ft. Future & Young Thug – ‘High End’
And the final spot on this Playlist goes to … *drum rolls*… Chris Brown, Future and Young Thug with their new rap song, ‘High End’! I just love the beat and how well the rappers’ voices fit in this song. ‘High End’ appears on Chris Brown’s new album, Heartbreak on a Full Moon, which was released on the day of Halloween.
You have reached the end of this article and hopefully, you found at least one new song you will play on repeat for the next few days. Yay! If you enjoyed what you heard while you were here, don’t forget to keep an eye open for the next two parts of The Weekly Playlist, October Edition.
