Hello there! Are you looking for a quick round-up of this week’s latest releases in the vast and interesting world of music? Well, say no more, my dear friend, because you came to the right place! Welcome to The Weekly Playlist where you can get your dose of new music.

The last days of May have passed, June has begun and the exam session is over. With this in mind, for most of us, the uni year is over so allow me to congratulate you for finishing a year at our wonderful university. Maybe it was your first one, maybe the second one, maybe this was your final year here. Doesn’t matter! Well done for going through all your uni work. And now, on to serious business. The most exciting thing this week, besides finishing my last exam, was Halsey’s new album. Of course, there were other exciting music releases that I featured in here, so let’s begin with the first section of The Weekly Playlist. Enjoy!

  • New songs

Lorde – ‘Perfect Places’

The first on the list for this week is Lorde with her new track ‘Perfect Places’. This is the third song from her sophomore album Melodrama which is set to be released on 16th June. If you liked her recent releases ‘Green Light’ and ‘Liability’, which will also be included on her upcoming album, then you’ll definitely like this one as well.

Ne-Yo – ‘Another Love Song’

We haven’t heard from Ne-Yo in quite a long time and I think he realised that too because he decided to release this week the first single in two years. TWO YEARS! And I quite like it, although it’s nothing about it that screams ‘wow’. It’s catchy and it suits Ne-Yo’s R&B/soul music style.

5 After Midnight – ‘Up In Here’

5 After Midnight finished third place on The X Factor in 2016 and they’re known not only for their nice voices but for their crazy dance moves as well. This week they released their debut song which is very upbeat and catchy. It got me from the first time I listened to it. You can find the song on the usual music platforms.

  • New albums

Major Lazer – Know No Better

Surprise! It’s Major Lazer with an unexpected six-track EP. No, for real now, the EP was a surprise. For the tracklist, Major Lazer teamed up with musicians like Camila Cabello, Quavo, Travis Scott, J Balvin, Sean Paul and many others. My favourite song is the title track which I added here and you can listen to the rest of the songs on their official YouTube channel.

Dua Lipa – Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa released her debut album this week. It’s weird, isn’t it? I mean, she released songs that became hits and she’s gained so much popularity lately that I felt like she’s been around for a longer time. So, for this album, she kept it simple, with the same style we’re used to. The singles ‘Be the One’ and ‘Hotter than Hell’ are also featured on the tracklist. The album is also a visual one and each song received a GIF art. You can find them all on her YouTube channel and here’s the one for the song ‘New Rules’.

Halsey – hopeless fountain kingdom

Yeeees! I’ve been waiting for this album my whole life! Well, not really. Just since it was announced Halsey will release a new album, but still. So, this is Halsey’s second album and it centres on the concept of doomed love and star-crossed lovers. It follows her debut album Badlands which I also recommend (this is the fan in me speaking). If I were to compare the two albums I’d say this new one is more diverse with more genres mixed together and I really like this change. Also, I’m really into the album cover. You can find the entire tracklist on Halsey’s official YouTube channel and on the music platforms.

  • New song covers

For the last section of The Weekly Playlist, I selected three great covers of three great songs from three great artists/groups of artists. Haha, see what I did there? Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I did.

Backstreet Boys –  ‘As Long As You Love Me’ (Anthem Lights Cover)

Ariana Grande – ‘One Last Time’ (Vincint, Mario Jose, Aaron Encinas, KHS Cover)

La La Land – ‘City Of Star’ (Megan Lee, Mike Bow Cover)
