Hello there! Are you looking for a quick round-up of this week’s latest releases in the vast and interesting world of music? Well, say no more, my dear friend, because you came to the right place! Welcome to The Weekly Playlist where you can get your dose of new music.

This was a very good week for new songs, new soundtracks and for Ed Sheeran’s song ‘Shape of You’ (keep reading if you want to find out what I’m talking about). The best part, however, was that Kendrick Lamar finally released his very anticipated and long-awaited fourth album. Below you can find the list of my favourites this week, including the ones already mentioned. Enjoy!

  • New songs

ZZ Ward ft. Gary Clark Jr. – ‘Ride’

‘Ride’ is the main theme for the upcoming sequel to the animated movie series Cars which is set to be released in June. While waiting for the movie, this upbeat rockish song will do.

TLC ft. Snoop Dogg- ‘Way Back’

As a quick reminder about who the ladies from TLC are for those who’ve forgotten, I’m just going to say ‘No Scrubs’. That’s their most known song still played in some clubs today. That song is almost 20 years old and TLC’s last album was released back in 2002. They recently revealed that they will release a final album this year in June and ‘Way Back’ is the first track we get to listen to. I like that although they kept their style, they updated it to current times.

DNCE ft. Nicki Minaj – ‘Kissing Strangers’

Joe Jonas’ band and Nicki Minaj collaborated on this awesome funk/pop song which is definitely DNCE’s style. It’s rumoured to be one of the tracks from a possible upcoming album which would be DNCE’s sophomore album. But, until we know for sure, the only thing that we can do is enjoy this song.

  • New albums

Kendrick Lamar – Damn

Ever since Lamar posted the video for ‘HUMBLE.’, he got everyone expecting a new album which was still just a speculation at that time. At first, it was believed that he will release it on the 7th April, but the fans soon discovered that was the date when he announced that the release date is actually in a week, on the 14th. Well, here it is now and the album doesn’t disappoint. The 14 all-caps titles on the tracklist are straight to the point, resolute, and with no filter when approaching different topics. Take a listen to one of them below and while you’re there enjoy the video as well.

Little Dragon – Season High

The Swedish electro-pop music band has just released their fifth studio album Season High. For the 10 tracks on this album, the four-piece settled for an artsy combination between 80s dance-pop and 90s R&B. Ahead of the album release, they dropped the music video for the second song on the album, ‘High’, which you can find below.

Fast & Furious 8: The Album

The soundtrack for the latest movie in the Fast & Furious series was released this week. It’s a compilation of 14 songs from various artists, including Wiz Khalifa, Young Thug, G-Eazy, Ty Dolla $ign, Pitbull, Camila Cabello, J Balvin and so much more. The soundtrack is a mixture of hip-hop/rap, EDM/trap and latino, just like we’ve been used to from the previous movies. It definitely promises a movie full of action. Here’s one of the features on the album.

  • 50 (minus 47) shades of Sheeran

My guess is that the God of Music really likes Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ and because of that he secretly makes the musicians out there post an overwhelming number of covers and remixes of this song. This week, my subscription box was full of them so I decided to dedicate a full section just for this. I even had a hard time deciding which ones to feature in this article but I think the ones that I chose are the best of this week.

DJ Earworm’s Mashup

Rudy Mancuso’s Remix
