DJ Format and Abdominal are once again touring the UK to showcase their first full-length album together, Still Hungry. After touring earlier this year, the duo brings the same energy to less visited realms of the UK, including York’s very own Fibbers, on the 9th November.
Still Hungry was released in May earlier this year to a rousing reception, including an exclusive play on BBC’s Radio 6 Music with Lauren Laverne and a spot on London’s Soho Radio. The DJ and MC channel true 80s vibes on their album, drawing inspiration from iconic rap groups like A Tribe Called Quest and De la Soul, with an iconic style that envelopes funkier, soca-style beats that give the duo a quirky sense of originality which sets the duo apart from the seemingly endless rap groups appearing daily. DJ Format and Abdominal shine also through their ability to weave their way lyrically from the morose to the comical, using their album title to touch on issues such as poverty and racism. Their upcoming set in York promises to be an entertaining evening that, like all good rap, will leave a lingering impression that suggests an ever-burning undercurrent of the inequality inherent in daily life.
DJ Format and Abdominal are playing in Fibbers on 9th November. Doors are at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12.50 and they can be bought here. This is definitely not one to miss!
